2012-2018 Features
The Antares features Shimano’s MicroModule gearing, X-Ship for improved gear durability, Super Mg, SVS Brake System, S A-RB, Super Free Spool, Escape Hatch, and is Dedicated for Freshwater.
Shimano’s Antares has been around for a long time, and for good reason. Packed with many of Shimano’s “tried and true” features along with some of the latest technologies available, it’s one mean machine. The Micro Module gear system utilizes smaller teeth and more of them to provide more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. This results in a more efficient, smoother functioning reel. When combined with the X-Ship gear construction, it also provides improved durability and more precise alignment. The difference in smoothness and overall performance is quite noticeable in our hands. Its lightweight magnesium frame/aluminum side plates makes for an incredibly stout platform, and choice of two gear ratios also make the Antares perfect for almost any freshwater application. A true workhorse designed to stand up to the abuse of relentless fishing, the Antares offers an extremely high level of performance, and refinement.
